The RU Lives

The car is a full 1994 Impreza L but swapped out with a 2001 WRX tranny, suspension and brakes. It was originally bought as a project car to be finished in time for winter so my xB could be put away. A good amount of simple work was done on it, mainly cleaning of a neglected motor.

But all the fun came to a swift end when I hit a tree on a small, windy and dark road on the Tremblant mountain on the way to a cottage. Guess the Initial D music was not such a great idea.

With the front end pushed in by a foot, surprisingly the motor still turned over so not all hope was lost. I got some great help by Bannonjr, Epic_Velocity, Rick and Paulski with them, the Ru was brought back to Montreal. Fixing began and many ty-wraps were used in order to hold the front together, a total of 75$ and two cases of beer was spent fixing the car.

After driving it for a few weeks, I received a free car from a family member that was no longer in need of it. At this point, the plans for the Subaru changed, I went from caring about it to seeing it as a car with nothing to loose and then I realized that I could now do anything with it, that’s when it became the Ru, named after IMV’s Subaru.





The off road runs began and so did the abuse, puddles that would cover the hood with water, leaks from the shifter and bumps that would make the car fall apart. But it kept going, pushed through every puddle, conquered every hill and still started the next day.

Alas its time has come to an end with it being given a full 48 hour inspection that it would never pass. The Ru sits in the driveway as time passes by, as I walk by it everyday I think of the times I had with it knowing it was the best car I ever drove. The Ru was the one that I could reach the limit as I didn’t care about it anymore and that I truly felt free while driving. But as they say; it’s better to burn out than to fade away.
